Aribisogan impeached, suspended as Ekiti assembly elects Adelugba new speaker

Gboyega Aribisogan, lawmaker representing Ikole 1 constituency, has been impeached as the speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Mr Aribisogan was also suspended indefinitely by members of the state lawmaking arm during plenary on Monday.

Olubunmi Adelugba has now been elected as his replacement by seventeen out of the 25 members.

The Assembly Complex had been sealed as members were embroiled in a controversy following the death of the former speaker, Funminiyi Afuye.

The 66-year-old Afuye died at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital on October 19 after suffering cardiac arrest.

A month after his demise, the parliament held an election and Aribisogan emerged last week but have now been impeached and suspended indefinitely.

The ousted lawmaker blames immediate-past governor Kayode Fayemi for his ordeal.
