APC chieftain begs INEC REC over N5 billion libel suit

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State, John Mayaki has pleaded for an out-of-court settlement in the N5 billion suit instituted by Mike Igini against him.

Mayaki had accused Igini, who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, of holding secret meetings with Governor Godwin Obaseki to rig the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State.

Aggrieved by the allegation, Igini slammed a defamation suit against the APC chieftain, describing his claims as malicious and targeted at destroying his reputation.

At the resumed hearing of the case before the High Court in Benin City, Mayaki who was the spokesperson of the Edo State APC media Campaign Council for the 2020 election pleaded for an adjournment to allow him conclude a settlement which he initiated with the plaintiff.

The case was subsequently adjourned by Justice Victor Oviawe till June 21, for a settlement report.
