Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked B Division of the police divisional headquarters and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Akwa, the Anambra State capital.

The incident which occurred Sunday evening, according to TVC, claimed the lives of many police officers, though the number of casualties are yet-to-be ascertained.

The arsonists who came in three Hilux trucks were said to have set the INEC office ablaze after attacking the police station which is about 300m away.

Nkwachukwu Orji, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra, who confirmed the attack said details remained sketchy.

“I need to get a clear picture of what happened in my office before I can speak,” Mr Orji said.
