The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) has withdrawn from the November 6 race which now has seventeen other contestants.
Chidozie Nwankwo who stepped down Friday evening collapsed all his campaign structures into the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Nwankwo urged his supporters to give their mandate to Valentine Ozigbo, the candidate of the PDP. This was made known in a statement by the Director General of his campaign, Ejike Nwachukwu.
The last-minute withdrawal was also ratified by the camp of Mr Ozigbo, a former Transcorp chief.
“After due consultations with top aides, friends and family, we do hereby endorse the best candidate in this contest, Mr Valentine Chineto Ozigbo of the PDP, to win the governorship election,” the statement reads. “We hereby collapse our campaign structures, the Kingdom Care Foundation structure and all the Pentecostal structures supporting our candidacy in this election to support the election of Mr Valentine Ozigbo of the PDP.”
