Alleged Blasphemy: 34 lawyers defend Deborah’s killers as police arraign suspects

About 34 lawyers have been assembled to defend suspects alleged to have participated in the stoning and roasting of Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police prosecuting inspector, Khalil Musa, arraigned the suspects on Monday at a Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The defendants, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, all pleaded not guilty when docked.

The judge whose name has been withheld for security reasons withheld ruling and ordered the accused to be remanded at a correctional centre, when the defence lawyers, led by Mansur Ibrahim, applied for bail of the suspects on liberal terms.
