Akwa Ibom governor joins 2023 presidential race

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has joined next year’s presidential race by accepting the expression of interest and nomination forms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Brekete family, a popular reality show which focuses on human rights issues in Nigeria.

The leader of the Brekete delegation, led by Innocent Orji, said his group bought the form for the outgoing governor to stop godfatherism in the country.

Mr Orji presented the forms on Thursday at a brief ceremony which held at the government house in Uyo, the state capital.

Accepting the form, Mr Emmanuel thanked the group promising not to let Nigerians down.

“Honestly, when I heard this plan to buy me a presidential nomination form was going on, I asked myself, how can they raise up to N40 million to buy me a form?” the Akwa Ibom honcho queried.

“But today it has become a reality. There are over 200 million Nigerians, but you choose to accord me this honour and privilege, and I don’t take this for granted. I really want to appreciate this family. I register my appreciation to all Nigerians for this confidence,” he added.
