Akpabio Losses Re-election Bid To PDP

Godswill Akpabio, lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North at the Senate, has lost his re-election bid to return to the red chamber.

Mr Akpabio, a former governor of the state sought re-election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

He had pledged to deliver the state to the ruling party in the general election.

Chris Ekpenyong, a former deputy governor running for the same Senatorial seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) defeated the first time lawmaker at the Senate.

Mr Ekpenyong scored 136,373 votes to defeat Akpabio who scored 67,487 votes, according to The Nation.

The PDP earlier won the other two senatorial seats in the state by ousting an incumbent APC Senator and return the other to the Senate.

The former governor is among influential lawmaker at the Senate who lost their ambition of going back to the upper legislative chamber.
