Akeredolu orders massive recruitment into Amotekun as forest quit notice to herdsmen nears

The governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu seems not backing down in his resolve to regulate herdsmen in the state.

Mr Akeredolu who on Monday ordered herdsmen residing in forests to either register with the government or vacate bushes in the state has approved the massive recruitment into Amotekun.

Issuing the order, the governor said testimonials from kidnap victims shows bad elements masquerading as herdsmen were using forest reserves for criminal activities bordering on insecurity.

The new development might not be unconnected with his administration’s move to use the security outfit to enforce the order on herdsmen who have allegedly remained defiant on the advise of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

The state commander of the South-West Security Network, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed this Friday evening.

“The governor has ordered massive recruitment to the corps. The recruitment is free. You can download the form on our website,” Adeleye said.

The state commissioner for information reteirated same to TheCable, saying: “We have not repudiated the story.”
