Controversial Catholic Priest, Ejike Mbaka has again called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).
Mr Mbaka who superintend over Adoration Ministry made his latest call on Sunday while reacting to the recent attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) by bandits.
The foremost military institution came under attack with two military officers killed by the unknown gunmen while one who was abducted is still being held captive with his abductors demanding N200 million ransom.
“Did you not hear that yesterday (Saturday), bandits entered into our most secured place in this country, Nigerian Defence Academy?” the former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari queried during homily. “The NDA, the impenetrable place in Nigeria and killed some Nigerian military officers. The country is sinking just as I told them last time.
“The arrest of Nnamdi Kanu; will it solve any problem? Will it stop any agitation? Now, the attack on the NDA; is it Nnamdi Kanu now?
“Is it not better that he is released? Since he is still under their custody and NDA could be perforated, violated and mesmerised, what is the hope of this country if it can happen in Nigerian Defence Academy? Where else is safe?” Mr Mbaka asked again.
Mr Kanu who was intercepted and abducted in Kenya is been detained at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS).
A federal high court in Abuja had ordered the secessionist should be in custody of the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS) from where he will be brought to court to continue his ongoing treasonable felony trial.
His lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Tuesday alleged that the secret police continued to maltreat the legal team of the IPOB leader who is seeking the actualization of the defunct Biafra Republic.
“It is pertinent to note that the harassment, intimidation, and manhandling of our lawyers by the DSS officials during the visit still continued, despite our protest last week,” Mr Ejiofor said on Facebook. “Lawyers were “practically stripped naked” while searching for incriminating materials during a court-ordered visit.
“We therefore, do not mince words in stating that it is no longer safe as it stands today for us who are visiting our Client. This hostile treatment is becoming exceedingly intolerable and unacceptable in the prevailing circumstance,” he added.
But in an interview with Punch Newspapers, the spokesman of the agency, Peter Afunanya described the allegation as untrue.
“(This is) not true, please,” Afunanya was quoted as saying.
