After loss of case file to one-chance robbers, SSS files terrorism charges against Igboho aides

A new twist greeted the case involving the aides of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo and the State Security Service (SSS).

The secret police, early July, violently raided the Ibadan residence of Mr Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho and arrested 12 of his aides. After disobeying various court orders setting the aides free, the SSS, in batches, released a total of 10 aides while detaining the remaining two.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, the legal counsel of the secret police Idowu Awo, told a federal high court in Abuja that one-chance armed robbers stole the case file involving the aides and pleaded for adjournment.

Mr Awo claimed his colleague who was to bring the case file and other of his belongings to the court had boarded a vehicle belonging to robbers, commonly known as “one chance” but lost the valuables to the criminals.

The court session had earlier been scheduled to hear a fundamental human rights suit filed against the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS) by the 12 aides, with which they seek a N100million compensation for aggravated and exemplary damages against the DSS for the serial breach of their constitutional rights.

In a separate suit, the SSS has now filed filed five terrorism charges against Noah Oyetunji and Amudat Babatunde, two of Igboho’s aides who are still in detention.

The security agency is charging Mr Oyetunji, on alleged possession of fire arms for terrorism-related activities, while Mr Babatunde was said to have promoted terrorism through her Facebook account.

No date has been fixed yet for the hearing.
