Abuja-Kaduna train service halted after ‘bomb attack’

Bandits reportedly attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train route on Wednesday, according to a former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani.

Mr Sani who tweeted the incident on Twitter Thursday morning said the attackers used explosives which damaged the rail track.

“Yesterday, terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive & opened fire on the train, targeting the Engine Driver & the Tank,” the tweep said. “This morning,I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged rail track. It took a miracle for us to escape.”

Confirming the development, the Nigeria Railway Cooperation (NRC) said it has halted its services on the affected route.

“Yes, there was an attack, but right now I cannot confirm if it was an explosive or bomb attack as people are saying,” the Abuja-Kaduna station manager, Paschal Nnorli told Punch Newspapers. “Our engineers have been mobilised to the area and right now we have suspended services.”
