Abba Kyari: Court fixes date for ruling on bail as wife slumps

The federal high court in Abuja has fixed March 28 as date for its ruling on the bail applications of detained cop, Abba Kyari and his accomplices who are jointly standing trial on drug related charges.

The trial judge, Emeka Nwite, adjourned for ruling after taking arguments from lawyers to the parties in the suit.

Last week, Mr Kyari, suspended head of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and four other police officers pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

However, their co-defendants, Chibuna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, who are non-police officers, pleaded guilty to the charges on March 7, during their arraignment.

Kyari’s wife slumps

Meanwhile, a middle-aged woman, identified as the wife of the deputy commissioner of police, collapsed on the ground shortly after the judge deferred ruling on the bail applications by the defendants.

She slumped while operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were leading her husband out of the court.

Effort to revive the lifeless body is currently ongoing.
