Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.

To retain power at the center, the All Progressive Congress (APC) must field a Northerner, Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation minister, has said.

Mr Fani-Kayode stated this in a tweet on Monday, insisting that was the only way the ruling party will not lose to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

With the completion of President Muhammadu Buhari second tenure next year, power is expected to shift to the Southern part of the country. To this end most aspirant on the platform of the ruling party are from the South, except Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

The former minister is supporting the candidacy of Mr Bello amid reports that the APC might throw open its ticket, foreclosing the possibility of zoning it to the South which will bar aspirants from the North from seeking the top position.

The controversial politician who defected to the APC last year with the hope of being chosen as the running mate of the Kogi helmsman also predicted that the PDP will produce Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, as its candidate.

“The truth is that @atiku is likely to win the presidential primaries in the @OfficialPDPNig,” he predicted. “Given that, the only way @OfficialAPCNg can win is by fielding a northern candidate.

“Whether anyone likes it or not, this is the truth,” he added.
