2023 Presidency: Tinubu begs, gets support of APC Senate caucus

The All Progressive Congress (APC) caucus in the 9th Senate has assured frontline presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu, of their support.

The caucus led by Senate President Ahmad Lawan gave the assurance on Wednesday during a meeting with the former governor of Lagos State at the national assembly.

Canvassing for the support of the lawmakers, Mr Tinubu described himself as the only one qualified to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari whom pledge not to offend while seeking support for his life-long political ambition.

“I seek your advice and counsel as stakeholders in this democratic journey,” the APC Chieftain appealed. “I seek your partnership in my quest to become the Presidential Candidate of our party and to win the general elections in February 2023 for all APC candidates.

“This is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation.

“Together, the executive and legislative branches of this democratic tree must strive to cultivate and bring forth good fruit for the welfare of the people.

“I told Mr. President that my ambition is not blind to the extent that I will step on his toes. I just want to step into his shoes and not on his toes.

“I want to beg you to look at my capacity and my experience. I am perhaps the only one who has been in the Senate, who has been a governor and aspiring to become President,” the politician added.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Mr Lawan assured him of their support while expressing optimism that the ruling party will continue to clinch power beyond next year.

“Your Excellency, once again, all of us wish you well, wish you the best of luck, wish you success in this and in the affair of fighting for APC, to continue to be the ruling party in Nigeria, and justifiably so, Your Excellency, we are with you,” they assured.

“2023 is going to be defined by what we do between now and then and what we have done between 2015 and now. That means we have to remain focused as an administration and United as a party.

“You have done so much as a governor. You were a member of this National Assembly and a member of this special legislative organization.”
